Frosty the SnowBot

PROJECT NAME
Frosty the SnowBot

CATEGORY
Infrastructure
PROBLEM STATEMENT
How might we know if buildings are in danger of collapse from the weight of accumulated snowfall?
PROPOSED SOLUTION / BRIEF DESCRIPTION
Rather than send structural engineers to measure the weight of snow fall on roofs, our plan is to leverage the internet of things. By putting weight sensors hooked up to Arduino or Raspberry Pi devices, we can send snow weight data in real time. This allows engineers to make informed decisions about building safety across the city. Over time, we can also run analytics on the collected data to make smarter decisions about building safety in extreme weather.

EXISTING PROJECT
The hardware portion has been built on Arduino. There’s even a solar powered battery solution to run the system in the event of a power outage. The project just needs software and a weather proof housing.
